All in one

Last Friday was my last day in school. I am currently sitting on my sofa thinking what to have for breakfast. It's 10:30 at the moment.

Reading a case happened in one of the private hospitals here in HK, the Baptist Hospital, about a pregnant woman from the mainland died of a complication during labor called amniotic fluid embolism. This complication will cause the placenta to break down, allowing the amniotic fluid, fetal cell and hair and other debris to enter the mother's blood stream causing serious allergic reaction. She was given drips of oxytocin to hasten the labor since she wasn't dilated. After a couple of hours, she was complaining about the pain and was then not responsive and needed to be resuscitated. Shortly after she died....

I know I shouldn't be reading news like this to stir my emotions. News said it is a rare pregnancy complication and no one could have prevented it. The death rate is 60% if it happens... What bothers me the most is that it said 'private hospitals have found more and more of these death cases and that the level of management and services have to improve'. The fact that I am going to have Xiaobao in a private hospital is now slightly bothering me...

This doesn't help with my already anxious feeling about giving birth. Everyday I wake up, thinking 'is today the big day?' since Xiaobao technically is full term size wise. God bless that everything's gonna be alright...

Today we are planning to go to the British consulate and immigration department to pick up forms about applying passport and return home permit. We've read up information online about the procedures and thought we could do with going there and ask any final doubts that we have about how all these will go... reading it online and actually having it done is always different. After that we might travel to North Point and take the ferry across to Nick's and hand in the form about the resident octopus card registration, so that we can get in and out of the flat without hassle.

I am chubby!

Time flies, it's getting closer and closer for Xiaobao to arrive! Today at St. Paul we saw Xiaobao's chubby face. Well at first I couldn't see it. Wherever Dr. Fong was pointing I thought it was his fingers, but turned out it's his face! Today Xiaobao's face is facing side-way. Though his head is engaging which is good. I asked if the ultrasound can tell whether or not my birth canal will be big enough for his head to pass through. Apparently his head is already 39 weeks when I am just 35 weeks as of today! :/ Xiaobao weighs approximately about 3 kg. He's indeed getting heavy, this afternoon I walked around without the girdle on, my thighs felt so tired after 2 or 3 steps! It makes a big difference when the supportive girdle is on!

He's gonna be a big baby, there's no doubt about it! Doctor told me to walk more, being a teacher that shouldn't be a problem. Though this is my last week in school so I'll have to make sure I walk more at home! Should start walking up and down stairs as daily exercise. Our flat is so small that I can't really walk around much. Always stuck on the sofa which isn't really ideal for me and Xiaobao. The more exercise I do, the easier the delivery will be, everybody's telling me that...and my tight fingers are all normal according to Dr. Fong. They are called 'trigger fingers'. Though when I asked will I get 'trigger toes' Dr. Fong seems to appreciate my joke lol.

After Xiaobao's birth, in 6-8 weeks time, we have to go back for post-natal checkups to make sure everything's fine for both of us. Time is pretty tight for our Christmas schedule, so we'll have to do our best. There are lots of uncertainties. Getting Xiaobao's birth certificate, passport (these two are most important and yet we won't know how long it'll take to process - hope for the best), arranging for checkups, etc. Booking the tickets will be a pain in the backside in our case, which also means it's gonna be expensive :/ *sigh*

Asked about the delivery package offered in St. Paul, if there is any emergency change of delivery plan, extra cost will be added on. If it's during normal office hour, it'll be extra few thousands, however if it's late at night or early in the morning, it'll be more expensive, close to nearly another 10k :-/ *joy oh joy*

We've just made Xiaobao's bed. It's looks comfortable and cute. It'll be here awaiting for Xiaobao's return :D

Imagination runs wild?

Lately I had a lot of dreams, most of them can be classified as 'nightmares' :/ they all surrounding a same theme that is 'how I will fall'! This morning alarm went off first time, so I put babyplus on. Another hour of sleep before I have to actually get up for work. In that last hour, I had my 'nightmare'.

It was in a morning. I was on my way to the MTR as usual. Hubby seems to be walking with me to the MTR. We departed when we got to the stairs. After a few steps down, I fell :/ - it was painful and I was worried. People around me started coming round to help me. I grabbed a person next to me and said 'can you go out there and find this westerner, he won't be far, we just said goodbye'. How strange I recall every word I said in this dream, usually I can't remember exactly what happened in my dreams.

So I said to that person thinking there won't be a lot of 'westerners' this time of hour on the street, plus it wasn't long since we departed. However we couldn't find hubby on the street :( - so I tried calling. No answer (his phone must be in the toilet sitting on his books), I was worried and annoyed, yes my water broke...so I had to be sent to the hospital...Then what next...alarm went off at 5:45...

Isn't it great? I spent my last hour of sleep in this nightmare *sigh*. This is not the first one. I have many other dreams which I couldn't recall exactly but all around the same topic... is it my body giving me signs or that I am thinking too much? Sometimes, especially if it rains, I'll think about every step I took, I might somehow tripped myself. Like my left foot tripped my right foot as I walk...but not that I am 'obsessed' thinking about those...people said one'll only dream about things they think a lot. I don't think falling is something I think a lot during the day....:/ :/ :/

Last night I woke every 3 hours. Couldn't sleep on my back since Xiaobao weighs too much for me to breathe... I lie on my side and every time I woke up, half of my body will be numb, so as my fingers which isn't unusual now....But the difficult thing was whichever side I tried to lean on, Xiaobao went that direction! Wasn't he making it difficult for himself! Of course then he's moving around and wiggling. Well of course!! What do you expect? You shouldn't have gone that way, should you? *sigh*

Yes I could have turned the other way, but then he'll catch up before I finished my turning. It's like he knows what I am gonna do next! Just like him and the camera, sheesh, you can't be that accurate every time, but he seems to manage lol.

Every time I woke up last night, my tummy was stone hard, Xiaobao sticking out at weird angle making me difficult to pull myself up, even sitting down makes me wanna saw my legs off to give more room to my tummy :-O

Tonight we'll be going to Nick's - hopefully there won't be hassle about us going in. I foresee we'll be taking some bags with us, not to mention our laptops if we were to stay overnight. The idea is that all the baby shoppings will be delivered to the flat tomorrow (since we have the cot, so we thought we best leave it - and put it up - at Nick's) and tomorrow is also my checkup day to St. Paul, so we can also time how long it'll take on taxi from Nick's to the hospital. From CSW to St. Paul takes about 40-45 minutes...

Every Little Helps

Right now Xiaobao is listening to his favourite YBCR CD, it's been awhile since he last listened. Let's see if he'll move more for his kungfu video sequel;)

Daddy has put up a donation page on our blog, things are getting expensive now isn't it? We'll send the link to family and friends. Hopefully we'll get some donations for Xiaobao, as Tesco says 'Every little helps'! Anything you guys contribute will be greatly appreciated!

Let's see what we're gonna have for dinner tonight. As of now, we aren't really hungry as such. But I thought of making eggplant with spam, winter melon and seaweed soup, I might actually put the rice noodle in the soup. Depends on what Hon fancies for dinner, rice or noodles... We are running out of instant noodles...

We haven't started moving stuff around in the flat. Need to clear out a space to put Xiaobao's cot. I have a lot of books, looks like I have to throw them all away :( I don't want to 'cause they are all my literature novels and books I collected all these years, but doesn't look like I have many choice in this small flat...Xiaobao's stuff will get more and more, no time to do it then when he arrives. The earliest we clear out the space, the better...But of course I can't do it myself, too much lifting and moving heavy stuff around from the ceiling. Yes we've kinda stack stuff upwards these years...the only way to store in a small flat eh...so for that, I can direct and Hon will have to move the stuff, though we have to wait for whenever he can...

I was planning to let this elder woman to take my books and papers away, since she can sell it to others and get some money for herself. I thought since we are throwing it away anyway, might as well be of some use to her. It's not worth the hassle for us though, we are talking about several kg of paper and get a few dollars. But that's how some of the old people earn their living here. When mom's here, she used to keep cardboard box paper for this old lady and mom will call her from time to time to come and collect.

However I haven't seen this old lady for awhile now. She used to come and visit me, see how I am doing after mom's back to China...not sure where she lives. I only know she's on the same floor as us but no chance can we guess which room she's in...There are many here....:/ unluckily I couldn't find her home no. either :(

Apart from moving stuff around the flat trying to squeeze out as much space as possible. On the other hand, we are reading up procedures about legal matters, how to apply documents for when he arrives. We need to get his birth certificate, British passport, Return-Home Permit, etc. Looks like all these require different process and we don't know how long each one will take... the more we know, the better we can prepare. Anyway a lot will be going on this November, that's for sure! Thank god mom will be here to help me, or else I don't know how we'll be able to do all that by ourselves!

Half six already! I might go and prepare dinner soon actually...

Xiaobao shopping

Needless to say it's been another week since I last updated. One more change on me apart from Xiaobao moving and the back pain and general discomfort is my joints! :/ especially the joints on my hands!! Whenever I lie down and sleep, I'll wake up half of my body numb ('cause I sleep on my side most of the time), the numbness I've gotten use to but now my hands! I can't bend them or move them easily. They are like robot fingers!! :O surprisingly tight. This morning my left ring finger couldn't bend up itself :( I have to manually move it! Now it's better but still moving fingers is uncomfortable. Not sure if I should be in water as often now since being in cold and humid condition doesn't help. They are a bit better if I cover them up warm or move around more frequently. That's why day time is lot better than when I sleep....

Last night resting on sofa Xiaobao decided to show off some of his l33t Kungfu skill, so daddy filmed it on HD camcorder we specifically get for him so that we can send HD video back to homes....Here's the clip:

Yesterday we've been out all day doing baby shopping, man he's expensive!! We bought a cot (the one we picked is the mahogany one for newborn til 3 years old), a sterilizer (comes with 3 milk bottles), an electric/manual milk pump, some milk storage bottles, 2 nursing bras, a pack of cleaning/wiper stuff with cotton sticks, a bag of newborn diapers (on discount), and some pads for myself, looks heavy duty to me :/ - didn't even know I need all that before I went to this shop. One very warm one piece jump suit for xiaobao. Oh nearly forget, we also get a combi 4 in 1 xiaobao carrier (made of Japan, breezy material). Thought we'll need this materials for using in HK such hot and humid weather. Don't want Xiaobao to have heat rash all over whenever we go out! Last thing is a thermometer

As you can see all these are not really luxurious stuff, all necessity things before and when Xiaobao arrives. They are *soooooo* expensive - every little things do add up :/ Who said having a kid is easy!

Good job that I flipped through one of those pregnancy magazines while I was at Kwong Wah the other day, I saw they advertise this baby center shop with all these discounts and special offer. So we decided to pay them a visit. Things there are lot more reasonable and practical than those we saw in Tsim Sha Tsui. I was told the Maternity 010 is the most expensive maternity shop. So I avoid going there to shop. But at first we didn't know, so we got my supportive girdle from there. Cost us around HK$3xx, but I needed that at the time and we didn't know better where else to get it. My back was hurting so we got it at 010. Yesterday just out of interest, I asked the baby center shop how much was their girdle, the most expensive one there is not even over HK$200. grrrrrr you can tell how annoyed I was! But ah well, not much we can do. Not knowing things can be expensive!

But I am glad that we visited this shop and got all our supplies with discounts and we managed to find their value packages. The cot, sterilizer, duvet (comes with 10 pieces) and a baby bath are all in this value pack. Much cheaper than if we buy it a-la-carte. But as I said, they all add up at the end....:/ :/
