No news is good news

After the long agonizing wait for the blood test, finally I had it done last night in the hospital. aaaaahhhhhhhh, what a relief!!! I was patronizing over the thought of the jab for a LONG time, ever since I know I need to do the blood test. The test result also determine whether or not I need to do the amniotic fluid test. Yes taking some sample from my sac, a needle go through my abdomen into my uterus, into my sac >_< !!!!! It's for testing whether my baby have Down Syndrome. The thing is both the blood test and the fluid test cannot tell me 100%, it's still an 'accurate' guess. A guess!!!! One that involves poking me alive with a big fat needles into my uterus>_< it also carries risk of miscarriage :O (even though it's 0.5%-1%) still it's risk, isn't it!!

Some report said if the sac doesn't heal properly, it might get infected and whatnot. So no no no no, I hope the blood test will come out fine. Dr. Fung said if it's good, then I won't receive a phone call, otherwise .... now every phone ring startles me ... but I shall get really anxious in a week's time because it takes them a week's analysis to get the result. Let's just pray for the best...

OK about yesterday! We first went to Kwong Wah Hospital to get me registered. Was worried that they might not have vacancy. Thank god I was OK! First appointment is in June! Ah well, better than nothing, be grateful we don't have to hunt for other hospital. There was this man from the mainland asking if the hospital still have vacancy for his wife who'll be due in August or September this year. The nurse asked if his wife was HK resident. He said no. The nurse gave the man a piece of paper of other local government hospitals to try his luck and said coldly 'no more places here'. I feel so sorry for him but then again HK resident should have priority over others I suppose...*sigh* the cruelty of society.

After Kwong Wah, we went straight to St. Paul. We aimed to get there at 5pm, so that hopefully we won't be the last one to see Dr. Fung. I was no. 11 already upon registration! The hospital was under strict survelliance, everyone going in needs to fill out a form, get their temperature measured and must wear a mask inside the hospital premises. Was not really comfortable wearing those mask but no choice... hospital is the last place you would want to go to in this swine flu (H1N1-A) season :/

An announcement came up after we've been waiting for more than an hour, that Dr. Fung will be coming down to office in 15 minutes! We couldn't believe it, we've sat here all these time and Dr. Fung wasn't even in!!! *sigh* later did we find out that he was caught in several deliveries today. At least it's some good news for others :D

Another hour gone by, I felt a bit peckish, since we don't know how long it'll be until my turn, so we decided to head down to the "delicious" canteen (not) to grab some food. Guess what, I just wanted something small to keep me going, but a single ham and egg sandwich costs $35 without drinks! What on earth is wrong with these people! So we didn't get anything because it's just ridiculous. We headed back up. Another 30 minutes gone pass, we decided to go down, hubby has some cookies to eat, and I could do with a walk. This time I ordered sausage and ham noodles with soup. Guess what, it's $25. How can a single sandwich costs more than a bowl of noodles and soup?? ah well... at least I had some food to keep me going, that was 7:45 pm.

We finally got to see Dr. Fung at around 8:15. The ultrasound session was exciting. We see our baby was kicking up a storm inside me, little hand going up and down the head. Legs were jumping up and down. I saw the whole body moving up and down a few times! I gasped a little and said 'it's moving!' Dr. Fung laughed at me saying 'of course the baby moves!' hahaha. Was great seeing the baby moving and whatnot. A sign of healthiness indeed! :) Little heart's working hard as usual heh. Took Dr. Fung a few shot to take a clear pic because it's moving so much heh. Naughty!

After the check-up. I had to go and do the blood test. My last chance to get it done otherwise it'll be too late... my anxiety increases gradually. We had a nanny taking us to the lab in the old hospital campus. The walk was eerie, long corridor, dark inside and quiet :/ I saw the lab finally after the 2nd automatic door opening in front of my eyes. I thought this is it!

Went in, handed over my piece of paper, paid the fee and there I saw the chair to sit on and the sponge pad to lay down my left arm... adrenaline started rushing and I started looking away from the nurse and starred at the wall. The nurse looked very dry and bored when she stepped out. That didn't me a good vibe about the whole thing. At that moment, I just wanted it done a.s.a.p. so that we can leave this place ...

Hubby held my right hand, I tried to focus on looking at his eyes and just relax...I felt the nurse cleaning the area on the middle of my arm. It wasn't the usual minty wipe, just watery like wipe. Then I felt the needle touching my skin, I thought 'this is it! Relax relax...' then I heard the nurse tearing something and started pressing down on my skin. I thought oh that was a testing on the skin? When I was still thinking, hubby signaled me and said 'it's done baby', I couldn't believe my eyes until I heard the nurse told me to press the cotton ball down for awhile. WOW! It's done before I even feel the needle going in!!!!!!!!!! Whoah! I uncontrolably let out am unbelievable chuckle and said 'thank you nurse, you are great! I didn't feel anything, wow!' The nurse let out a nice smile and said 'you are welcome', nice to see her smile (looks like after a long time...) and I still couldn't believe it as we walked out of the door and I said a belated 'goodbye' to the nurse and the nurse replied back to me from the room, hehe.

Had I known a blood test can be like this, I wouldn't have been worried shit for all these time. Only wish all the blood test in the future can be like this! Let's hope the one in public hospital can be as good as this one!

Thank you Buddha for giving me the strength and made this event indeed 'smooth'.

Waiting patiently for the blood test result ~~
